memorykeeper

My Once Upon A Time fanfic, The Memory Keeper, is set in the mid-season hiatus during season 3. Emma has spent a year with no memory of her former life, and Hook has arrived, determined to get her to remember – and then get her home. He’s pulling out all the stops paying court to the distrustful Ms. Swan, and in this scene, he’s arranged a date aboard the Jolly Roger . . .

“Well, then,” Hook asked, securing the wheel. “What’s it to be? Shall we dine in the Captain’s cabin, or would you prefer to be out under the stars?”

Emma pictured herself cozily ensconced in a private room with this man, feeling the motion of the ship gently rocking them as they sat across the table from each other, with the candlelight playing across that face of his.

“We’ll eat out here,” she said firmly.

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday: A Stir Of Memory

mrjones

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, Mr. JonesKillian Jones is swept away by a cursed magical instrument and has lost all memory of his former life. Now working as a desert tour guide in New Mexico, he’s more than intrigued by his new neighbor – a woman named Emma . . .

“Emma. . .” he began. “Do we know each other?”

“I live next door,” she reminded him. “We met yesterday.”

He gave a short laugh in response. “I know I told you I’ve had a head injury, but my memory isn’t that bad. I remember yesterday. It’s just that you seem familiar somehow.” Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday: Pomp, Circumstance and A Very Bored Pirate

lt

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, Loose Threads (a later installment of The Memory Keeper series), we meet up with Killian and Emma (and a few others) a short time before Henry is set to take the throne as the new king of Camelot. Snow and Regina are ready to plan a memorable party – if only everyone else would get on board . . .

“I realize this is just pomp and circumstance, but I could do with a bit less of the pomp.” Killian set down his empty wine goblet, unstoppered his flask and poured a healthy dose of rum into it.

“I’ll take some of that,” David said, nudging his own goblet over. “And one thing I’ve learned about Regina – she can never have enough pomp.”

“How bloody long can they argue over the varying shades of crimson and gold?” Killian asked.

“Who even knew there were varying shades of crimson and gold?” Robin interjected, reaching for the flask. “I don’t think we’ve made an inch of headway.”

“If you three are quite finished,” Regina said, raising her voice. “We could use a little guidance.”

“Is it regarding color schemes, china patterns, flatware designs, draperies or sconces?” Killian asked.

“No, it’s -”

“Furniture placement, carpeting, water closet availability or floral design?” Killian continued, ticking the items off on his fingers.

“Enough!” Regina snapped. She took a breath. “It’s a matter of decorum.”

Killian raised a brow. “Well, don’t look at me.”

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday: Mr. Jones Has Some Remembering To Do

mrjones

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, Mr. Jones, Killian Jones finds himself alone in a strange place, with no memory of his former life. When Emma makes it her mission to find him, she’ll have some convincing to do–and a big, big secret to reveal. In this opening chapter, we get a feel for what Killian’s new life is all about . . .

Killian Jones was not having a good day.

He stared up at the darkening sky from the bottom of the canyon, then back at the line of boys trailing behind him.

“Look alive!” he shouted, and their three heads came up in unison. Jack, the eldest, circled back as Will – who was right behind him – quickened his pace. Killian could hear Jack encouraging John, who was youngest, but John was having none of it.

“-dragging us out here when it’s a hundred degrees outside,” young John grumbled. “I hate hiking.”

“Come on,” Jack cajoled. “We used to hike with Dad, remember?”

“He’s not Dad.”

“No, he’s not,” Jack said tiredly. “But we’re gonna be out here all night if you don’t get a move on.”

Will made a rude noise from up ahead. “One night in the desert is enough for me with this clown.”

“Hey!” Killian called out sharply. “That’s enough lollygagging. Those are storm clouds overhead.” He pointed up, above the ridge. “We don’t want to be caught on the canyon floor when the rain hits.”

“It’s desert,” Will pointed out. “It would have to rain for ten hours before the ground would even get wet enough to make mud.”

“My point exactly,” Killian said, putting his hand on his hip as he surveyed the terrain. “The water will run first, and with great force and speed. A flash flood will take you down before you even know it’s upon you. Let’s get higher and find shelter before that occurs, shall we?” Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday: Pizza And A Pleasure Cruise

memorykeeper

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, The Memory Keeper, we find ourselves in the middle of season 3, just after Killian arrives in New York, determined to help Emma get her memories back. This story features a very different take on the Wicked Witch, and a very different method for retrieving Emma’s memories – and making  some new ones.

In this scene, Killian cajoles Emma into joining him for a night on the Jolly Roger – where he hopes to break down the walls that she’s so determined to hide behind, and get her memories of her former life back on track.

“Let me guess…” Emma mused, taking a drink of her rum and Coke. “You’re a royal. Not one of the famous ones, maybe somebody with a lesser title. You came into your inheritance and you’re hiding out from the paparazzi.”

What the hell was a paparazzi? Hook had no idea.

“You’re very astute,” he said, in a non-committal way. There. That wasn’t an outright lie. She was astute, and it was going to cause trouble if he didn’t find something else for her to talk about.

“And you’re very cryptic,” She replied, raising a brow. “Did you besmirch some girl’s honor, or something?”

“Many times over, as I recall. But not recently.” He leaned back on one elbow. “And what about you? How is it you haven’t found love yet?” Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #FanFic Friday – Road Trip

bug

My Once Upon A Time fanfic, You Had Me At Malfeasance, is a series of one-off’s set between and around series episodes. This chapter is set after Emma’s memory loss in season three. Killian convinces Emma to return to Storybrooke with Henry, and this is a bit of the road trip from NYC to Maine.

“I’ll never get used to these horseless carriages,” Hook complained. “Everyone drives like a madman and there’s no way to stretch out your legs or lie down, if you’ve a mind to.”

Emma gave him a warning look, sending a half-nod over her shoulder in Henry’s direction.

“The lad’s asleep,” Hook informed her. “Has been for some time now.”

“Well, you can get out and stretch your legs a minute – I’m stopping for gas.”

“Gas?”

“Fuel. It’s what the car runs on.” She put her blinker on, merging over to the right and pulled into a gas station. “This won’t take long. There are restrooms inside, if you need them.”

He gave her a nod, heading toward the dingy looking mini-market attached to the gas station. He came out a few moments later with a key attached to a large block of wood. He held it up, walking over to her.

“What the devil is this? Do I use the block to prop open the door?”

She smirked. “They do that so no one steals the key.” Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday – Emma Goes On The Offensive

FS

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, Friendly Shores, we see the whole universe get flipped. Rumple’s a hippie, Emma’s a pirate, and “Mr. Gold” is now “Mr. Charming.” All our beloved characters get wildly different personas, except for Killian, who’s left wondering what the hell is going on.

In this scene, he’s been successfully fighting off the lascivious advances of a certain lady pirate, but who knows how long that will last . . .

He was just stepping out of the bathroom, shaking his wet head and with a towel around his waist, when he realized Emma was sitting cross-legged on his bed. He noted with relief that she was fully clothed.

“Good morning,” she said. “Thought I heard you shower last night.”

“That one was for self-preservation,” he replied. “This one was for hygiene.” Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday – Neverland Interlude

mal

My Once Upon A Time fanfic, You Had Me At Malfeasance is a series of one-off’s set in and around various scenes in the show – sort of a behind-the-scenes set of fics. In this chapter, Hook and Emma share a conversation, just a few days after that first, infamous kiss . . .

She pulled herself out of the pool of water, glancing around carefully. It felt good to get the sweat and steam of the jungle off of her, even if it was temporary. She stood, wringing the water out of her hair, and then waved her arms, trying to generate some air flow around her body, in lieu of a towel.

“Keep flapping your arms like that and you’ll end up with an audience of Lost Boys,” Hook said.

She jumped, grabbing her clothes and holding them in front of her as she turned. He was standing a few yards away, with his back to her.

“How long have you been there?” She demanded. “It’s pretty low…spying on someone while they bathe.” She yanked her shirt over her head, then struggled to push her wet legs into her pants.

“Calm down, Swan, I’m only keeping watch for you.”

“I don’t recall inviting you.” Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday! Meet Papa Killian

cc

Captain’s Choice is a series of one-off fics set in and around The Memory Keeper series of stories. In this particular installment, Killian and Emma are parents to Meriel, age 3 1/2, and Finn, who’s a rather restless toddler. You’ll see that Papa Killian has him well in hand . . .

*thump*

“What was that?” Emma’s voice was muffled in the pillow, and she didn’t open her eyes.

*thump*slide*thump*

“There it goes again,” she grumbled, giving Killian a push. “It’s your turn.”

“Uuugh. Have a heart, love,” he groaned. “I just got to sleep.”

“So did I,” came the muffled reply. “It’s your turn.” She still didn’t open her eyes.

Killian ran a hand through his hair, sitting up.

“Can’t go, love. I’m naked.”

“Me, too. Not an excuse.”

He sighed, reaching for his breeches and sliding them on. Then he padded over to the door, and down the hall to the nursery. The moonlight from the open window fell across Meriel as she lay sound asleep, with one hand stretched across the bed. Killian walked over, pulling the covers up around her. He attempted to pull her arm back in and fold it over her chest, but she wouldn’t let him budge it, even in her sleep. He didn’t want to risk waking her, so he smoothed her hair and left her as she was.

He yawned, running his hand through his hair again, and turned to the crib.

“Oh, bloody hell.”

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday! Killian and Emma Have A Talk . . .

pandora

In my Once Upon A Time fanfiction, Pandora’s Pain, Storybrooke is visited by a lone woman, who’s looking for a very particular box. Unfortunately, this woman carries a curse that affects the lives of anyone near her, sending them back to relive the most troubled time in their life.

In this scene, Killian and Emma have a quiet moment alone before all hell breaks loose – and Emma decides to ask a difficult question . . .

They stood in silence for several minutes, just watching the sun sink into the sea. Killian had been right about that, too – it was incredibly romantic. She sighed, lifting her head from where she’d leaned it back against his chest.

“Why the long sigh, Swan?” he asked. “You’re not turning pensive on me, are you?”

“Maybe a little bit,” she confessed. “Just thinking about what life must be like – looking at this every day.”

“And now you know why the sea is any sailor’s first love,” he replied. “I suppose his ship is his second.”

And you gave up your ship for me, she thought. A glance over her shoulder at his face said he was probably thinking the same thing.

“It’s all right, Swan,” he said with a half-smile. “I don’t regret that trade.” Continue reading
