Tidbit Tuesday:

Beautiful young smiling couple in love embracing indoor

In this scene, Manni and Matt have a Come-To-Jesus talk after he experiences an elemental interaction firsthand…

“What the hell just happened?” Matt asked, turning in a slow circle. His hands were cupping his ears which were still ringing in the aftermath.

“You just met an Original,” Manni said, dusting the front of her pants. “And that one was the queen mother of them all.”

“An original what?” He demanded. “What the hell is going on here?  Is she…” He shook his head, as if trying to talk himself out of it, then forged ahead. “Is she a space alien? Or what?”

“Or what,” Manni answered in a deadpan. “I know it won’t do any good to tell you it’s not what it looks like. You’re in the middle of this, and it’s going to take longer than we have right now to explain. If you want to live, you’re going to have to trust me and not get freaked out.”

#OnceUponATime #Fanfic Friday: Meet Father Killian

twice

My Once Upon A Time Fanfic, “Twice Upon A Dream” is a sequel to one of my most popular fics, These Dreams. Both fics are set in the dreamscape, a place where the dreams of everyone in Storybrooke set the backdrop, and Killian and Emma (along with other main characters in the sequel) have to find their way through to get back to the real world. While you’re in your own dream, you have no memory of the outside world until someone gently reminds you, which lends to all kinds of hilarity and poignancy.

In this scene, Emma is dreaming, and about to make a confession… Continue reading

Resource Thursday: A Great Spreadsheet Tool For Outlining

outline

I came across a really helpful spreadsheet tool based in Excel (courtesy of Julian Ionescu at FantasyScroll.com), for charting and outlining your novel. Here’s the link to the page explaining it in depth, but the instructions are right on the sheet as well.

If you struggle with getting the bones of your story in place before fleshing it out, this thing can be a godsend. Check it out!

Tidbit Tuesday: Miri Makes Up Her Mind

Quill pen and ink well resting on an old book in a library conce

Sky Woman will always hold a special place in my heart as my first “official” novel. It was born from a rather steamy daydream I kept having in the car on my commute home from work. It was so pervasive, and ate so much of my brain, I finally decide just to write the damn thing out. I let is sit for a long time, then stumbled into the world of fanfiction, where I discovered to my surprise that I could write 50,000+ words in thirty days – again and again and again. So I put Sky Woman up on Smashwords and Amazon, and I hoped for the best.

It turns out my readers loved Miri and her family as much as I did, so I went on to write the Seeder Saga, and that, as they say, is history.

In this scene, Miri makes a decision – after being transplanted on a planet far from home and meeting Lunan, first son of the first son of the House of Falenua. And this decision has been a long time coming… Continue reading

If It’s Good It’s Great…If It’s Bad, It’s Writing Fodder

Finger Keyboard In Cafe

In the last 45 days I have:

  • Broken a tooth.
  • Sunk $2k into car repairs on a vehicle that’s 11 years old.
  • Watched my brand-new MacBook air drown in front of me and die.
  • Gotten “the worst case of poison ivy” my doctor has seen in years.
  • Had to cancel a vacation.

Believe me, it’s been sucksville around here for a while. But I’ve also been using my favorite form of therapy to deal with it: I write. Continue reading

#OnceUponATime #FanFic Friday! Killian And Emma Play A Game

adrift

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, Adrift, Killian has been hit with a wicked curse that sends him back to being the villain that he once was – and then some. It’s up to Emma to rescue him, but it’s also up to Killian to believe he can be the man she fell in love with once more.

In this scene, Killian and Emma are playing a game of Liar’s Dice, and Killian is determined to find out more about the life he led with Emma – A life he has no memory of now… Continue reading

Praise The Lord And Pass The Margaritas

Margarita.

HALLEFRIGGINLUJAH.

Book 2 of my YA series is in the hands of my editor, and while they peruse and read and pass around and deconstruct and ready their notes for me, that gives me a window of time to knuckle down and finish up Earthsinger! Whoo Hooo!

So look for a cover reveal in the very near future, and let’s get back to the Elemental Destinies – there’s still a lot of story to tell!!

Earthsinger is coming SOON!
