#OnceUponATime FanFic Friday! Meet Mermaid Emma!

dreams

In my Once Upon A Time fanfic, “These Dreams,” Emma and Killian are thrown into all sorts of alternative scenarios in the dreamscape as they battle an evil sorcerer who’s intent on getting rid of them before they keep him from his real target…which you’ll have to read the fanfic to discover.

In this scene, we meet Emma the mermaid, as she and Killian have a lovely picnic in a cove…

The Fine Art Of Flirting – And Not – In Print

Happy Couple Enjoying the Party

I began my book Someday In Dublin with an entire chapter full of flirting. Eyes meet across a crowded pub, slide away, slide back again. Those same eyes look over a pint at her as she smooths her hair behind her ear and pretends to be reading. They play this game of moves and counter-moves for nearly the entire first chapter until one of them straps on a set of balls and makes the first official move.

I Don’t Use “Very” Very Much….She Says Informationally #amwriting #writing

very

See that? That’s a helpful chart –  I mean a really, really helpful chart. I’ve kept it in my writer file for a while now and figured I’d trot it out and pass it along. Not sure where I found it originally – probably on some writer’s forum, but it’s handy to have.

Mark Twain once said, “Substitute ‘damn’ every time you’re inclined to write ‘very;’ your editor will delete it and the writing will be just as it should be.”

Time For Another Tease! WindSinger Is On Its Way… #amwriting #amwritingromance #amwritingfantasy

Windsinger

In my new paranormal/fantasy romance series, you’ll be introduced to protagonists who represent each of the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water. In WindSinger, we meet Cecy, who meets Brad, and together they start to unravel a mystery that threatens all of humanity – but first, they’ve got to figure each other out. And they will. Enthusiastically.

Here’s a bit of their first real face-to-face meeting, out in the high desert… Continue reading

FanFic Friday! Here’s A Sample From “The Memory Keeper!” #Fanfic #OnceUponATime #CaptainSwan

hook

In my Once Upon A Time FanFic The Memory Keeper (part one of the Memory Keeper trilogy) we pick up right after Emma slams a door in Killian’s face in the middle of Season 3. What follows is a grand adventure across realms, and my take on a very different wicked witch (since I was writing it before the rest of the season aired).

In this scene, Emma and Killian have to come to grips with their newly defined relationship status… Continue reading

Where Do I Get My Story Ideas? Welcome To The Vault Of Useless Information

vault

I have an affliction.

I have a really great memory. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem, but in my case…it’s a really great selective memory.

Will I remember that I have to pick up marshmallow fluff at the store tonight? Nope. Do I know where I put my damn car keys? Nope. Can I tell you whether or not I scheduled that meeting at the day job that I was supposed to facilitate? Hopefully.

But ask me about behind-the-scenes movie trivia, or historical oddities, or geographic anomalies, and I’m your girl. My family calls it “The vault of useless information.” I’m awesome in trivia challenges, but hell if I can tell you what I had for dinner on Tuesday.

Finally! Someday In Dublin Now Available In Print! #romance #romancenovels #goodreads #amreading

Sea landscape with the eye of Ireland in Howth, Ireland.          book

HALLELUJAH!!!

It’s finally done!

Someday In Dublin is now available in print!! Sorry for the slight delay, but I had to make sure this bugger was perfect, and it is.

So if you’re one of those that likes the feel of a genuine book in your hands, you can now go on an adventure with Michael and Amy without staring at a backlit screen or worrying about your battery running down.

This is the first of my books that I’ve taken to print, and I have to say I am excessively proud of this one. Sometimes, a story just writes itself, and it was that way with Someday In Dublin. They always say “write the book you want to read,” and I have. I’ve reread this one over and over and not just for editing reasons. I love these characters so much. So very much.

I’m betting you will too, so if you haven’t tried it yet, and want a bona fide paper copy, you can order it via CreateSpace today or wait a few days for it to show up on Amazon. Watch here and I’ll flag it for you when it’s live there.

*sigh*

Satisfaction. It’s a good feeling.

Sometimes You Fly And Sometimes You Slog Through The Mud #amwriting #writing

stormy

Please excuse the tardiness of this post…I was busy writing, you see.

Since Saturday, I have seriously been on a roll. I logged 5300 words this weekend, and another 1200 yesterday. 980 so far for today, and they seem like reasonably good words, too. I mean, all in the right order, somewhat coherent, and telling a story in a descriptive and occasionally dynamic fashion.

At least, it seems this way for now.

I’ll go back once the first draft is done and scratch my head and wonder what the f**k I was thinking, but just now…just now I feel really accomplished.

I know I’ll hit a wall soon (or should I say a block) and I’ll be grinding those words out, pulling them with pliers from my brain and knowing they’re crap even as I fish them out, so when the muse is visiting, you gotta make the most of it.

Back to the story.

And will somebody please tell that other story to leave me alone? I’m working here!

petro

I’ve always said I could have been a cultural anthropologist.

Back in my married days, the ex was a huge history buff, and we cheerfully toured museums and battlefields galore. He was fascinated by the war stuff – strategy and armaments and logistics.

Me? BORESVILLE.

I couldn’t care less how they won the damn battle, or with what weaponry or how they compensated for weather or lack of tanks or ammo when planning an attack. But show me a display with a soldier’s diary, or a letter home, or a picture he carried in his wallet, and I’m immersed.
