Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover (Except Everybody Does)

travtease

I am one lucky author. I hit the motherlode when I found Colleen Clarke at Mystique Book Designs. Colleen is responsible for all the amazing covers on my Seeder series, and at a more than reasonable price. I found her on a website featuring premade ebook covers, that I used to find the cover for “Naughty or Nice”, and she’s been terrific to work with.

This week, I had a special challenge for her.

You see, I wrote a young adult novel, under my alternate pen name (Britt DeLaney is for erotica only). This one is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy kinda thing, but unlike a lot of YA Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels, it is completely devoid of vampires, werewolves, angels, demons and dystopian futures. In short, it’s different.

Happy Belated Birthday To My Favorite Pirate! Here’s A Piece Of Fanfic To Celebrate!

hook

Yesterday was Colin O’Donoghue’s birthday and I meant to post this yesterday – somehow I got my days mixed up. I’m juggling three major projects right now and sometimes, that shit just happens. Anyway, in honor of the indomitable Captain Hook and the overwhelmingly talented piece of mancandy that portrays him, here’s an excerpt from my fanfic, “These Dreams.” In this chapter, titled “The Black Swan,” Emma finds herself suddenly aboard a ship, and a pirate captain who encounters none other than our darling Killian Jones, who seems to have no memory of her…

My Thoughts On “Traditional” Publishing

words

You’ve no doubt noticed that I’ve published exclusively in e-book format and on my own platform via Kindle and Smashwords. I did try to go the traditional route first, but Sky Woman was a tough sell due to the nature of the plot – it sort of went out of the bounds of a mainstream romance but not far enough out to be considered kink or fetish. Every editor that saw it wanted me to either pare it down or load it up with vampires, lesbians, three-ways and bondage scenes.

That wasn’t this book.

Happy Friday, Everyone – Here’s Another Teasing Peek At Book 3 Of The Seeder Saga!

Changeling

Are you ready for another tease of the upcoming book? Changeling is the story of Indar, a Seeder who travels the galaxy “seeding” people onto existing and newly-colonized worlds, and Lizzie, a human girl who isn’t all she appears to be. The chemistry between them takes them both by surprise, and we get to watch them sizzle. Here’s a tiny taste of what they’ve got in store…

Where Do You Get Your Inspiration?

bulb

Inspiration is, of course, a very personal thing. We’re all inspired differently and probably a lot of it is happenstance (isn’t that an awesome word? I so rarely get to use it in a sentence…).

In my case, I do a lot of daydreaming.

I mean, a lot of daydreaming.  More so now that I’m a single woman, and I have to confess to you that I honestly worry about finding myself in a stable relationship someday. Will I lose my mojo? God, I hope not.

I often get a kernel of inspiration from a TV show or a video I’ve seen – that’s where the latest one came from. I saw a YouTube video that took place in Dublin and I’ve been toying with the idea of visiting myself (and even went so far as to bookmark some sites for different places around the area that I’d like to visit) and on top of that I was re-watching an episode of a favorite TV show and suddenly, a plot started twisting through my head.

My next series (it’s going to be a quad instead of a trilogy) began as a short story I wrote for a contest I was in. It was a horror flash-fiction and creepy as hell, but I wondered what would happen if I made it not as creepy as it seemed? What if I took that premise and shifted it a bit, making it fascinating instead of flesh-crawling? And what if there were others like this girl, whose abilities were similar, but defined by other elements? Hmmmmm…and now suddenly I have a series.

And of course, I’m always inspired by sexy guys I want to get busy with. And they’re all around and easy to write about.

What inspires you?

So Tell Us, Britt – What’s Next?

dublin

As you may have guessed, the final book of my Seeder Saga is breaking shortly, and I’m already scribbling away at the next story – a contemporary romance – along with another full fantasy series that’s been teasing at my brain matter.

But first – the contemporary. One thing at a time, Britt, one thing at a time.

The picture above is a bit of a clue – my next story begins in Dublin, with an American lass on a modern-day quest and the Irish lad who’s more than happy to assist (in any way she wants his assistance and then some).

It’s going to have steam, of course, and romance, that’s a given, but this one has a hook that makes it a little more poignant than my usual fare.

I plan to spend most of this weekend getting it partially written – I already have the framework in place and a few scenes built out. This thing seems to be writing itself!

I’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime, I’ve decided on the perfect title.

Someday In Dublin will steal your breath, and your heart – I promise.

And Here’s A Tease For All You Captain Swan Shipping Once Upon A Time Fans

mkd

This is from “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter” – part two of my Memory Keeper trilogy, where we meet Killian and Emma’s daughter, Meriel. Meriel and her companion time-travel back after an evil villain keeps her parents from ever meeting. We get to know a very different Hook and Emma, and their first meeting runs a bit differently this time around…
